Sophus' Privacy Policy for
the collection of information on behalf of our clients
Please read the important
information below about our policy in dealing with information collected
on behalf of our clients. If you have come to this page because you
followed a link from our client's site, this policy forms part of the
terms and conditions of using our client's website.
Sophus Limited ("Sophus")
takes privacy very seriously. We follow this privacy policy when we have
been asked by our client to capture data about the usage of their website.
What we do
Sophus provides its
customers with multiple solutions that interact with their Web sites and
help them with their marketing. Sophus eMetrics analyzes the behaviour of
visitors to the website.
Sophus is committed to
protecting the privacy of users of its website. In relation to any
information we collect about you, we (or any other third party to whom we
may outsource the hosting or operation of the Sophus website) will comply
with the standard required by the European Directive on the protection of
individuals with regard to the processing of personal data and the free
movement of such data (95/46/EC) and any applicable local legal
requirements regarding data privacy in the territories in which we operate
("applicable data privacy law").
Why and how we collect information
Large websites receive many
thousands or millions of visits per month. Sophus provides a service that
allows our clients to make sense of the vast amount of data that this
traffic generates, so that they can develop and improve their sites.
In order to provide this
service, each individual client instructs us as to what data they would
like us to collect on its website and Sophus collects this information by
using a combination of tagging and cookies. Please
in order to understand in more detail how we use tagging and cookies.
What information we collect
We collect information on
behalf of our clients to help them run their sites more effectively. We
may be asked to collect anonymous, aggregated information about the
patterns of activity on our client’s website, for example:
Information that helps them
run the site better: e.g. the number of people who look at each of the
pages on the site, search engine and affiliate referrals, browsing
patterns, responses to advertisements and promotions and purchasing
trends.
Basic information about
whether you have visited the site before, your Internet connection and
computer settings: e.g. the browser that you are using, your Internet
address, and the time zone that you are in.
In some cases, however, our
clients may ask us to collect data which may be personal information.
Although we collect this personal information on behalf of our clients, we
employ secure, encryption mechanisms which prevent us from being able to
identify you directly from the data we hold. Your personal information
remains anonymous in our possession and only the client on behalf of whom
we are collecting data will be able to have the means to de-code your
personal information and identify you.
For example, we may be asked
to collect:
Information that you submit
on a form, ie. we may record your name, home address, e-mail address and
telephone number if you provide that information to the site. This
information is supplied to us encrypted and we are not able to decrypt it.
Information which our client
already holds about you, and which they supply to us to associate with
your browsing patterns, ie. our client may tell us whether you have
previously purchased a product from them, so that we can analyze different
browsing patterns for new visitors and repeat customers on their behalf.
We will not collect:
Information about your
activities on other websites except those operated by the same client. If
you visit the website of another of our clients, you will have a separate
cookie. There is no way for us to track the websites you have visited.
Information which can
identify you as an individual except in an encrypted form which we cannot
access or decipher.
Use of information
All information collected by
us on behalf of our clients, is owned by our clients. We do not sell,
transfer or provide access to the information we collect to anyone but our
client and our client’s agents. We do not use the information ourselves
for marketing, to contact you, or for any other purpose.
Once we have transferred the
data to our client (or their agent) we no longer have control over that
data. Our client may choose to combine the information we collect on their
behalf with other data they already hold or use the data in other ways.
Once we have transferred the information to our client, we are not
responsible for how it is subsequently used. This will be covered by our
client’s privacy policies and not by this privacy policy.
Security
We take great care to
protect the data that we collect. It is kept in a secure environment and
we use sophisticated methods to protect the integrity of the data,
including security measures and redundant systems to help ensure accuracy.
Machine-readable privacy policy
Sophus uses the World Wide
Web Commission standard P3P (Platform for Privacy Preferences) to
describe how we process data. If you use a P3P enabled browser, for
example Microsoft Internet Explorer 6, then it will read the P3P policy
and use it to help decide whether to accept or reject the Sophus cookie.
The P3P policy contains the
same information as the human readable policy that you are reading, but in
a compact form that allows it to be sent with each request without using
up excessive bandwidth. You can learn more about P3P on the
W3C website.
Your options if you do not want this
information collected
If you do not want us to
collect information about you on behalf of our clients, you have a choice
to opt out from the data collection. If you want to opt out, you should go
to the opt-out page.
